Adsorption

Biochar has extensive adsorbing properties

Biochar is porous material with a high surface area. It can be used to adsorb water and buffer moisture in composting operations (prevent excess or lack of moisture). It can also reduce bad odours. Composting poultry litter with a 20% biochar addition could reduce ammonia emissions by more than 60% and total nitrogen losses by 50%.
